Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland potentially has a big summer ahead of him as he tries to nab the number one spot for England at the World Cup and could take on a fresh challenge at a new club.
According to The Express, Wolverhampton Wanderers a planning to launch a £35m bid, while Liverpool and West Ham United are also interested, but there has been little talk of Tottenham Hotspur being in the running.
Mauricio Pochettino has an established keeper in Hugo Lloris, who is generally reliable between the sticks, but has faced some criticism from fans in recent weeks.
The Frenchman is likely to remain as number one for the club’s first season in their new stadium, but second-string option Michel Vorm could create a vacancy.
Butland – valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt – would certainly be a strong number two, and he has the quality to seriously challenge Lloris for the all-important first-team role.
However, given the England international’s rise, he may not want to lose his regular position at Stoke to become second choice elsewhere.
From the fans’ point of view, though, results from our recent poll indicate that they would be happy for Tottenham to bring in Butland.
