According to The Telegraph, Borussia Dortmund are willing to do business with Chelsea and Liverpool for Christian Pulisic if they can meet a fee of around £70m, a deal which the latter should jump at.
What’s the word?
It is no secret that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the United States international, having overseen his development as a teenager whilst manager of the Bundesliga club. Of course, £70m is a lot to pay for a 20-year-old who is out of contract in the summer, but we all know that when Klopp sets his sights on a player, it is often an unwavering decision.
The 5ft 8in Pulisic is still one of Europe’s most exciting young players despite struggling for gametime under Lucien Favre in Dortmund this season, making just four starts in Germany’s top-flight as Jadon Sancho steals the show.
In addition to what he would offer the Reds on the pitch, Pulisic’s impact off the field would be just as significant, if not more.
A huge attraction
The Merseysiders are on the hunt for a new kit supplier as their deal with New Balance ends in the summer. Former partners Adidas, the creator of some phenomenal kits for the club in the past, have been touted as an option, but it is Nike who would be the best party suited if Pulisic were to end up at Anfield.
Dortmund’s number 22 is Nike’s poster boy for US football, or ‘soccer’, if you will. He has 23 caps for the national team, and has been heralded as the greatest thing to happen to US soccer since David Beckham arrived at LA Galaxy.

He has been listed 25th in SportsPro’s ‘Most Marketable’ list, which reveals that the attacker already has deals with Hershey’s – the chocolate brand, as a result of his birthplace conveniently being Hershey, Pennsylvania – Gatorade, Nike and Panini.
Significantly, with North America confirmed as the host of the 2026 World Cup, there could be a monumental windfall coming Liverpool’s way in the near future if they were to sign Pulisic, and also strike a supplier deal with Nike.
In the years between now and the aforementioned tournament, the Dortmund prodigy will most likely be in his prime, and is more than likely to be one of the world’s best players – the Reds need to get this deal over the line. If they do, that £70m fee will look like peanuts.
