As reported by Belgian outlet HLN, time is running out on Celtic if they are to land one of their January targets, Henry Onyekuru.
What’s the story?
Celtic launched a bid in January to land the Nigerian attacker but theirs and Eupen’s valuation were a ways apart, despite the player apparently wanting a move away from his current employers.
Now HLN report that two more clubs have entered the race to sign him; Borussia Monchengladbach and Club Brugge.
That could spell the end of Celtic’s chances to sign him this summer, unless they can up the ante on their initial January interest.
Still worth pursuing?
Since that move fell apart in January, Onyekuru has kept up his fine for the Belgian club, bringing his total tally for the season to 17 goals.
Able to play on both wings or through the middle, he would offer Celtic great versatility and is perhaps a potential direct replacement for the outgoing Patrick Roberts this summer, who will return to his parent club Manchester City.
Despite being just 19 years of age, it clear he has a talent that is likely good enough for the Scottish top-flight and surrounded by excellent players could take his name to the next level.
If there’s still a chance of landing him then Celtic should pursue the deal, even though Bundesliga clubs are reportedly getting involved.
