What a week it’s been for Arsenal. If any Premier League team is going into their match this weekend on a high it’s The Gunners. Victory over Bayern Munich was much more than three points, it was proof that Arsenal can hack it with the big boys and also a lifeline for their Champions League hopes that were beginning to look like they were over.
Everton, on the other hand, are in a much lower, darker place. Following the emotion of last week’s tributes to the late, great Howard Kendall, defeat to Manchester United seemed almost secondary. Yet it was still a limp 3-0 defeat at home at a time when you thought the players would be able to put up a fight in the memory of a real club legend.
Arsenal v Everton – LIVE
Everton fans will be wishing they had Neville Southall, Kevin Ratcliffe, Andy Gray and Gary Lineker lining up for them today, but they’ll have to do with only one change from the side that lost to United as Gerard Deulofeu comes in for Steven Naismith as Roberto Martinez keeps the faith in his men.
Arsenal, on the other hand, name a very similar side to that which beat Bayern in midweek. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comes in for the injured Aaron Ramsey and Gabriel takes the place of Per Mertesacker. But the big news is that Olivier Giroud starts ahead of Theo Walcott in Arsene Wenger’s side today.
