Looking to replace Ederson this summer, Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on signing a Serie A star who’s yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at his current club.
Man City eyeing contract rebel
It’s set to be all change at the Etihad this summer, as Pep Guardiola aims to rebuild his side with his first major overhaul since the first season of his tenure. The Spaniard is reportedly set to be as ruthless as ever in an attempt to take his side straight back to the top of English football after just one season away, and that could see several players depart.

Among those is Ederson. The Brazilian has faced more questions than ever at Manchester City this season and has even found himself dropped for Stefan Ortega at times. Now 31 years old and almost into the final year of his current contract, the Citizens’ No.1 has been linked with a summer departure in recent months as City look to sign the heir to his goalkeeping throne.
On that front, names such as Senne Lammens have already been mentioned and now another option has reportedly emerged onto the Citizens’ radar. According to CaughtOffside, Manchester City are now eyeing a move to sign Mile Svilar from AS Roma this summer.
The goalkeeper has so far turned down the opportunity to extend his current contract, which is set to expire in 2027, and has attracted interest from both Manchester City and fellow Premier League side Chelsea as a result.
At 25 years old, Svilar is at the peak of his powers and may well get the best move of his career at the perfect time. Replacing Ederson is going to be some ask, but signing a goalkeeper who is capable of starring for years to come would certainly be a good start for Guardiola.
"Composed" Svilar can replace Ederson
Roma’s undisputed No 1 these days, Svilar has kept as many as 14 clean sheets in all competitions so far this season and is only just getting started on the European stage.
Ederson, meanwhile, may be about to bow out. The Brazilian has kept just seven clean sheets in all competitions and has fallen away from his incredibly high standards – as have City as a whole.
Earning plenty of praise during his time in Rome, analyst Ben Mattinson dubbed Svilar a “composed distributor” and a “revelation” following an excellent spell of form last season.
So, as Manchester City go in pursuit of replacing their iconic shot-stopper this summer, Svilar should certainly find his name on their list of candidates. With his contract negotiations yet to reach a breakthrough at Roma, the Citizens could take full advantage.
